HBO Max Cancels Two More DC Superhero Shows
HBO Max may have canceled a massive show as part of a complex tax fraud scandal, but that doesn’t mean, you know, the show is canceled.
Notably, the streamer announced today that the next half-seasons of its two live-action superhero shows, Titans and Doom Patrol, will be each show’s last, with both series ending with the end of their fourth seasons.
Both shows are currently in the middle of the fourth season, which the streamer gave the old “season in two blocks” treatment.
However, the result is that both shows will have enough time to craft real endings for their misfit superheroes, according to Deadline, making each series feel like a satisfying conclusion.
If we’re being honest, we’re more surprised by the Doom Patrol’s ending than Titans; If nothing else, we’d expect HBO Max to try to capitalize a little more on series star Brendan Fraser’s recent return to the limelight. (Fraser is, of course, up for Best Actor at the Oscars this year for The Whale.)
Still, the fact remains that both of these shows are well-regarded — mocking “Fuck Batman” in the case of The initial run of Titans was panned by critics—and, by TV streaming standards, the four seasons are positively geriatric.

Especially since both shows have already survived a Great Purge: Titans and Doom Patrol originated on the new highly defunct DC Universe streaming service, making the transition — with Harley Quinn now the last supervillain of the bunch — when The service eventually folded.
Titans focus on a TV-adapted version of DC Comics’ Teen Titans, starring Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Craft, and Ryan Potter. Doom Patrol, meanwhile, stars Fraser as the voice of Cliff “Robotman” Steele, Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Matt Bomer, and Timothy Dalton.
Both series were co-created by DC Comics TV adaptation mastermind Greg Berlanti, whose long association with Warner Bros. Discovery was recently extended with a major new deal.
