International Customs Day 2023: The World Customs Organization (WCO) celebrates International Customs Day every year on 26 January. The occasion is celebrated to commemorate the first session of the WCO held in 1953.

International Customs Day 2023: History

The day was first established in 1953 and ratified by the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC) for the first time. The session was inaugurated in Brussels, Belgium.

Then many delegates from 17 European countries participated. Later in the year 1994, CCC was renamed as World Customs Organization (WCO). Presently, WCO consists of 182 member states around the world.

The importance of this day is due to the upliftment of the leadership, guidance, and support of customs administrations around the world. It is a practice that establishes a strong bond between countries.
