Adam Scott shuts down over alleged ‘Boy Meets World’ snub
Adam Scott is closing in on a misstep that’s been bothering him for nearly three decades.
Before he lit up the screen as Mark on Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama “Severance” and as Ben Wyatt on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” Scott’s 90s sitcom “Boy Meets World, Griffin’ had the role of Griff. ‘ Hawkins, which he reminded Monday during an appearance on the podcast “Pod Meets World.”
Chatting with co-stars Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel, and Will Friedle, Scott recalled a “frightening” on-set conversation with Strong during the filming of the season 2 finale.
Scott said, “I don’t know whether you remember this or not, Ryder,” but “frankly, this has been bothering me for 29 years.”
He continued: “I was with (co-stars) Blake (Soper) and Ethan (Supply). Ryder, you were there with a different group of people, but we were all gathering knowing that the last scene was over.

But Scott said that moment of celebration went south when he approached Strong for a friendly hug.
“Black and Ethan go up to you, Ryder, and they give you a high five and hug you, and then they’re like, ‘Hey, congrats dude,’ and I give you a high five and I I’ll go and hug you,” Scott said. “And as I do, you push me and you look at me like, ‘Wait a second, who are you?’ And then you run away.”
Puzzled by Scott’s anecdote, Strong said he did not remember the alleged encounter, adding that he “is generally a hunter.”
“I’m so glad you don’t remember that,” replied Scott. “Because in part it means it wasn’t a traumatic experience for you.”
Scott also recalled a rumor he read on an online message board about Fishel’s feelings for her at the time.
Scott said, “I remember going out there and being so thirsty for any recognition or anyone knowing I was on television.” “I think I read somewhere someone said, ‘Well, I heard Topanga doesn’t like Griff.’,
But Fishel quickly set the record straight, insisting speculation that she bad-mouthed Scott off-set was “simply not true.”
Fishel said, “Nobody liked you. That wasn’t the situation.” “I didn’t talk about ‘Boy Meets World’ in school. I would if someone asked me a question, but it wasn’t cool to be away from school all the time.”
While the online rumor was troubling for Scott, he said the experience wasn’t all bad.
Scott said, “It was a bit of a thrill because I was being talked about on the internet in terms of the show I was on.”
