Doja Cat dazzled onlookers at Schiaparelli’s latest runway show on Monday in a dramatic head-to-toe look adorned in red body paint and 30,000 Swarovski crystals.

The striking outfit, custom-designed by the fashion house’s creative director Daniel Rosebery, was brought to life by makeup artist Pat McGrath, whose team took around five hours to perfect the look.

The singer’s arrival at the Petit Palais in Paris marked a dramatic start to Schiaparelli’s Couture Spring-Summer 2023 show, the opening event of the biennial Paris Haute Couture Week. Dubbed “Inferno Couture,” according to Rosebery’s show notes, the label’s latest collection was inspired by Dante’s “Inferno” and the nine circles of hell.

Doja Cat’s seductively devilish outfit featured a silk bustier, a skirt covered in lacquered wooden beads, and a pair of matching red boots.

On social media Monday, McGrath described the look as “Doja’s Inferno.” The makeup artist also posted a behind-the-scenes timelapse video, which shows her team painting the star’s skin and applying thousands of crystals by hand.

In the caption of another video, McGrath described the singer’s “outstanding grit” as “inspiring”. Roseberry, who in 2019 became the first American to head a French couture house, meanwhile posted a photo of herself with Doja Cat on Instagram, hailing the makeup artist’s “talent”.

Makeup artist Pat McGrath took an even closer look at Doja’s glowing face, which took her four hours and 58 minutes to create. McGrath thanked the Grammy winner for her “sublime patience” during the process, writing, “The end product was a magical, mesmerizing masterpiece of sparkling talent.”

The fashion show featured the likes of Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow and Irina Shayk strutting the runway in haute couture gowns embroidered with giant animal heads in a nod to Dante’s Inferno.

Kylie Jenner also sat in the front row during the performance, wearing a black lion headdress. (All of Schiaparelli’s posts ensure that “no animals were harmed in the making of any form.”)

Doja Cat arrived at the show with stylist Brett Allen Nelson, wearing a matching red suit and long jacket by Vetements. Then she took a front-row seat just feet away from Kylie Jenner, who made headlines with a black velvet strapless gown adorned with a life-size fake lion head.

On the runway, other items from Schiaparelli’s “faux-taxidermy” were on display, with Naomi Campbell and Irina Shayk appearing on the catwalk wearing similar animal-head gowns.
